MATH 497A: Introduction to Applied Algebraic Geometry
Welcome! I am the teaching assistant for this course, which is part of Penn State's
2015 MASS program
. The course is set up to cover
fundamentals of algebraic geometry, including
polynomial rings, ideals, and varieties;
affine and projective spaces, Segre varieties, secant varieties, and tensor rank; and
group actions on varieties.
Because this course is
, we will cover techniques used in many applications. In particular, the course will study applications to statistics, quantum information, and computational complexity.
